WNBA All-Stars including Kelsey Plum snub Michael Jordan as basketball GOAT

The WNBA had its All-Star Weekend, where the league's stars took on the national team during the All-Star game. Over the weekend, some WNBA All-Stars were asked who their GOAT pick was, and surprisingly, the name 'Michael Jordan' did not come up.

The GOAT debate remains to be a controversial topic. The biggest discussion about it usually involves Jordan, as he's regarded the be the GOAT player for most fans and even NBA stars. For WNBA players, however, most of them gave their opinion on the matter and the Chicago Bulls legend wasn't mentioned once.

Sabrina Ionescu was asked about who her GOAT pick is and named Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry. Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum named LeBron James as his NBA GOAT and Diana Taurasi when it came to the WNBA side. Jonquel Jones even mentioned Detroit Pistons star Richard Hamilton as well as James.

There have only been a few stars in the league who have mentioned Jordan as their GOAT. Back in 2021, two-time All-Star Chiney Ogwumike picked the six-time NBA champion as the best to ever do it.

"Being at the intersection of game transitioning, that’s MJ. Again, six finals, and LeBron James is chasing that standard, which has made this whole conversation super fun," Ogwumike said.

The WNBA All-Stars beat Kelsey Plum, Team USA over the weekend

The main event of the All-Star weekend garnered an incredible amount of attention from fans. It's rare to see the best players in the league take on the national team. But that's what happened to the game on Saturday with the WNBA All-Stars 117-109 victory over the star-studded Team USA.

The star rookies, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese took over the show and had the fans on their feet. Clark only had four points and struggled to shoot the basketball. However, she dished out 10 assists during the game, which set a new record for most assists in an All-Star game by a rookie.

Reese also had her moment during the weekend as she recorded the first-ever All-Star double-double by a rookie.

Plum, who is part of Team USA, finished with nine points and six assists in just 13 minutes. Meanwhile, Ionescu finished with five points in 21 minutes.

Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner wanted to win their exhibition game before they were sent off for the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, she looked at the bright side as Team USA set their eyes on a gold medal finish.

"[It would be] better if we would have got the W, but you know, [that's] how that goes," Griner said. "Last time this happened, we ended it with gold, so, you know, [I'm] just looking at the positives."

The Olympic break for the WNBA will end on August 14, giving players the much-needed rest this season.
