When thinking of the Denver Broncos' 2024 season, two things come to mind: rookie quarterback Bo Nix's amazingly impressive performance, leading the franchise to its first playoff appearance since 2016, and cornerback Patrick Surtain winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.
Denver's defense was impressive this past season. One player that didn't see much action was linebacker Alex Singleton.
Singleton, 31, tore his ACL in a Week 3 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, missing the remainder of the season.
Singleton came to Denver in 2022 after spending his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
In 37 games with the Broncos, Singleton has recorded 150 solo tackles, two sacks, and nine tackles for losses.
While it was a bummer not to see Singleton play most of last season, there is a good chance he will not be around for the 2025 campaign.
In Yahoo Sports' Jason Owens' Denver Broncos 2025 NFL offseason preview, it lists Singleton as a possible notable roster cut this offseason.
"Singleton is a team captain and a respected veteran." Owens wrote."He's also 31 years old and coming off a torn ACL. In the tough business that is the NFL, the Broncos may prioritize the $5.6 million in cap relief that cutting him would provide."
Losing Singleton would hurt, but not having him around last year didn't slow the defense down. If the Broncos could free up $5.6 million in cap space, it might be wise to cut the six-year linebacker.
Denver needs to invest as many resources as possible in building around Nix, and it must do so, even if that means parting ways with some defensive players to free up the cap.
