The Denver Broncos are still in the midst of a playoff push in 2024, but the team has a glaring need at the tight end position.
After waiving former third-round pick Greg Dulcich, the team will press forward with Adam Trautman, Lucas Krull and Nate Adkins this season. That will have to work, but in 2025, an upgrade will be at the top of the list of needs.
Once the offseason hits, the team will have to decide whether it wants to turn to free agency for a fix, find a prospect in the draft, or take both routes. The 2025 NFL Draft has several intriguing prospects in it and here, we will highlight four of these players for you to begin keeping tabs on and becoming more familiar with.
Perhaps one of these players will be the team's answer to its problems at tight end. So far this season, the Broncos have gotten just 30 receptions from the tight end position, which translates to about 2.6 catches per game. Imagine how much better this team would be with a tight end who could stretch the field.
Colston Loveland, Michigan
Colston Loveland was the top tight end prospect in the nation coming into the season. Some analysts see other guys ahead of him now, but he's as good of an option as you can find coming into the NFL.
He has been consistent for a Michigan team that has gone from winning the national title to a team that is barely bowl-eligible and he has still put up solid numbers, catching 56 passes for 582 yards and five touchdowns so far this season.
Loveland's combination of size and athletic ability will be hard for teams to overlook. He's a sound blocker and a smart football player as well. He could be a great fit in Payton's offense.
Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green
Harold Fannin is a bit smaller than Loveland and he plays at a far less successful school, but he is the No. 1 tight end on some analyst's draft boards.
He has been the focal point on offense for the Falcons and he is posting huge numbers. His 92 receptions this season are currently tied for second-most in the country and his 1,295 yards lead the country. Those are impressive numbers for a tight end, and they could push Fannin into first-round consideration.
Eli Stowers, Vanderbilt
Perhaps the most intriguing player on this list, Eli Showers is fast off the line and can threaten a defense down the field as well as many wide receivers. He has posted moderate numbers so far this season after transferring to Vanderbilt, but his intangibles and high potential ceiling make him a name to watch.
His lack of size will be questioned by teams but he will gain the interest of others with a 40-yard dash time that could come in the 4.5-second range.
Gunnar Helm, Texas
Gunnar Helm is a prototypical tight end who has evolved from a primary blocking tight end into a steady piece of the offense in Texas. He has five touchdown receptions this season and is beginning to really show some promise for the professional level.
Helm will need some fine-tuning between now and the time he takes and NFL field, but he is a coachable player with a great work ethic. Being selected by the Broncos would be a homecoming for him too, as he was born in Englewood, Colorado and starred at Cherry Creek High School.
