Amanda Batula Says 'Nothing Ever Works' to 'Deescalate' Husband Kyle Cooke: 'I Don't Love It'

As speculation surrounding Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke’s marriage continues to swirl online, she admits she doesn’t like how he often overacts on Summer House

“There’s zero way to deescalate Kyle at all,” Batula, 32, told PEOPLE for "Reality Rewatch" as she and her castmates rewatched moments from Summer House’s eight seasons. “He’s just, I’ve tried every single way humanly possible, and nothing ever works.”

The reality star made this point as she, Cooke, 41, and Lindsay Hubbard looked back on the moment when the Loverboy founder and CEO asked Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo in season 4 to stop talking at the dinner table and referred to them as the “giggly squad.” Berner, 32, and DeSorbo, 31, pair went on to launch a podcast and merch line by that name.

Kyle Cooke (L) and Amanda Batula of "Summer House" television series attends BravoCon 2023 at Caesars Forum on November 03, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“There’s so many things I just don’t know why Kyle does that he does,” Batula continued. “I don’t love it and that’s why I’m always like, ‘Can you just shut up? Just stop talking.’ Half the time I used to put my hand over his mouth.”

Hubbard, 37, likened Cooke’s temper to that of a child.

“He just gets really angry, you know, similar to like, a toddler when they don’t know how to express their anger, they throw temper tantrums,” she said. “It takes a while to get him to calm down.”

In his defense, Cooke said he wanted to “make a point” and “just really failed miserably.”

“I think this is the beginning of, or in the midst of a trend, where I might have a point —maybe I’m write or wrong — but it’s my delivery that certifies that I’m horribly wrong,” Cooke stated.

Cooke also admitted to not originally remembering the show’s most iconic line: “Summer should be fun. Amanda? Not fun.”

“I did not remember saying that until the trailer dropped and I was like, ‘Oh my God,’” Cooke said, adding that the moment “kind of breaks my heart.”

Batula didn’t love it either. “It’s like, such an iconic line, I get it, and we even made merch with it, but I feel so bad for little me there,” she said of her season 2 self.

It turns out that the couple had been fighting over a water spill. “I think I had spilled water in the moment and it felt like the world was over,” Cooke said.

Carl Radke suggested fans leave Batula out of the popular phrase.

“Petition to cut it off right at ‘Summer should be fun,’” Radke, 39, said. “Let’s leave Amanda out of this. She’s had enough.”

Also during the rewatch, Hubbard and Radke looked back on some of their biggest struggles before they ended their engagement in September.

Carl Radke, Lindsay Hubbard

Hubbard alleged that Radke "freaked out" when she brought up the possibility of being a stay-at-home mom down the line.

"I can't manage the household, I can't raise the kids, I can't plan the wedding, I can't deal with the finances, I can't like, be the one handling and driving the ship in every which direction and be the soft one," Hubbard said. "So like, you need to figure out how you want to help in this relationship."

When it came to how much money he made, Radke, who deemed himself a "sensitive person," claimed, "Her and I, we make the same amount of money on Summer House."

Ultimately, Hubbard thought Radke still had work to do on himself. "Carl hasn't done the growing that he needs to be doing and he still has a long journey to go, especially in therapy and specifically in like, learning how to be an adult on his own in this world," she said.

Meanwhile, Radke credited the "boy energy" in the house on season 8 with helping him deal with his relationship drama.

"I talk to Jesse [Solomon] a ton, he's in Brooklyn now, that's where I live," Radke said. "West [Wilson], we still are in touch with. I am just so happy that the boys got along."
