Bachelor Nation fans were shocked when ABC announced the next Bachelor lead during the summer of 2024. They picked a contestant from Jenn Tran’s season who mostly flew under the radar while on the dating show. Now some Bachelor viewers think Grant Ellis was the wrong choice as the lead for Season 29. What has he done wrong this season?
Grant Ellis Reveals What He Wants In A Wife
Grant Ellis clearly wasn’t the right man for Jenn Tran. She sent him home in Week 6 and briefly got engaged to Devin Strader during the final rose ceremony. ABC announced Grant as the Season 29 Bachelor right after his elimination aired on television.

Despite not finding love with Jenn, Grant Ellis knew he was ready to find a wife. He went into The Bachelor with the mindset of finding the perfect match. Grant recently chatted with Us Weekly about starring on the popular reality show. He revealed what qualities he is looking for in a wife.
“No. 1 is just somebody who’s not too self-absorbed. I want somebody who cares for people and who has a good heart. And I feel like that makes a really good partner because when I come home from work, I’m gonna cook for you and I’m gonna do certain things, but I also want you to think about me, too,” – Grant Ellis, Us Weekly.
It remains to be seen if Grant Ellis met his future wife or not.
Was He The Wrong Choice For Bachelor?
Many Bachelor Nation fans were surprised by the news, as Grant didn’t make a big impression during his time on The Bachelorette. While a fair amount of viewers are enjoying this season, there are others who don’t think Grant is doing a great job.
One common complaint is the allegation that Grant Ellis is only on the show to further his music career. It seems nearly every date includes him showing off his musical talent in one way or another.
In one Screen Rant writer’s opinion, Grant Ellis gave too much attention between the drama among his contestants than he did making a love connection. The writer claims that Grant hasn’t been serious about finding his future wife. Therefore, the writer believes, Grant Ellis was the wrong choice for The Bachelor.
Viewers Share Uncensored Thoughts About Grant As Lead
Some Bachelor Nation viewers agree that Grant was a poor choice. Check out some of the comments on a recent Reddit thread:
- “I just feel like everything he says is so generic”
- “The show infrastructure built around him is letting him down. It’s a bad season so far, but he hasn’t been a bad lead.”
- “Grant isn’t bad but there’s a couple things that just kinda seem phony to me. First example: the whole self made self taught day trader thing. 9/10 that’s just a big fancy phrase for being a crypto bro scammer or a wanna be finance bro…Second example: pretty petty and not even a big deal but him saying he didn’t get to go to prom cu he was “so focused on his basketball” like what? Prom isn’t even during basketball season lol. “
- “He just seems bland and immature, but he’s nice enough and very cute.”
- “I just don’t love how into the tattling he seems to be. I swear he became more attracted to Juliana after she was ragging on Carolina and that didn’t sit well with me.”
- “I find him bland with questionable fashion taste. Some of his outfits have screamed 1992 in a bad way.”
