Baker Mayfield is a playmaker. He's as confident as they come at the quarterback position, and now, heading into his ninth NFL season, he's experienced all the ups and downs the league can throw at a player.
From being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, who was ultimately cast aside by the Cleveland Browns, to reviving his career and becoming a legitimate NFL quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It's been a wild ride for Mayfield, but he enters the 2025 season with a chance to lead the Buccaneers to a fifth-straight NFC South championship and perhaps make some noise in the playoffs.
He couldn't be in a better situation or with a more stable organization, especially when compared to where his NFL career started, but Mayfield isn't satisfied.
In fact, he recently revealed to ESPN's Dan Graziano during a camp visit that he's working hard on his throwing mechanics. Mayfield threw 41 touchdowns last season, but he also threw 16 interceptions.
He seems to feel that releasing the ball quicker will help him cut down on the turnovers. It will also help the players around him, because he has a ton of weapons.
"The priority for me, once again, going into this year, is how quickly can I get the ball out of my hands," Mayfield explained. "We've got a bunch of good receivers, skill players that can do a lot more with it than I can."
If Mayfield can control the ball better this season, there's no reason the Buccaneers can't run away with the NFC South. There'd also be no reason for him not to be mentioned amongst the best quarterbacks in the league.
"I think he's been great every year," head coach Todd Bowles said. "Just cutting down on the turnovers and understanding what we need to do to win, he's been very good at that. If he can just cut down on the picks and continue to do everything else he's been doing, he'll be elite."
And as far as how Mayfield feels about his NFL journey up until this point?
"Exactly how I drew it up," the quarterback said.
