Sydney Sweeney is stepping into the boxing ring.

27-year-old actress and UFC fight fan Sydney Sweeney (EuphoriaAnyone But You) recently took on a new challenge in her acting career, playing the role of women’s boxing pioneer and former WBC Champion Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic, ‘Christy’.

Sweeney surprised her fans in her initial transformation to the legendary boxer, looking almost unrecognizable with short, brown curly hair, flexing her biceps in the first set photos.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had a similar reception as the actor had facial prosthetics for his role as former UFC star Mark Kerr in ‘The Smashing Machine’ movie, which comes out in October.

‘Christy’ tells the incredible, resilient story of Martin, the first female boxer to be signed by iconic promoter Don King and grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. After her title run, Martin was stabbed and shot by her then husband and longtime coach Jim Martin, who left her for dead in 2010.

Starting off the week, Sweeney shared an inside look at how the A24 boxing biopic is coming along.

Directed by David Michôd (The King), ‘Christy’ will premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.

“Talk about a total transformation! I barely recognize her!” one fan said of Sweeney as Martin.

“She nailed it,” another fan wrote on X.

“Loving seeing her do something different,” said another fan.

“Go get your Oscar,” a fan told Sweeney.

A Christy Martin documentary is out on Netflix

Can’t wait for ‘Christy’ in September? We got you covered.

Christy Martin shares her life story in the Netflix documentary ‘Untold: Deal with the Devil’ (2021).

The R-rated film details her rise to fame, drug abuse while fighting, personal demons, and her ex-husband’s attempted second-degree murder.

Martin publicly came out as a lesbian after her ex-husband tried to ruin her reputation by telling everybody they knew that she left him for another woman.

Martin, 57, is married to one of her former boxing foes Lisa Holewyne. The former WBC Champion retired from the sport of boxing in 2012 with a record of 49-7-3 (32 KOs).
