Things have gone silent on the Dallas Goedert front aside from the occasional name drop and trade theory. Can we be honest? He's one of those stars on the Philadelphia Eagles' offense who we think doesn't get his fair mention in our opinion.
Underutilized more often than not, he's one of the last of a dying breed. He's the rare versatile tight end who blocks, catches the football, and creates after the catch with equal proficiency.
Dallas breaks tackles like Zach Ertz never did. He's more talented than Brent Celek, Chad Lewis, and L.J. Smith. Don't get us wrong. We love all those guys, but Dallas was good enough to have made a few Pro Bowls by now. He's just never had the ball thrown his way enough.
Don't get us wrong. We've watched his career and every snap. We understand Philly has other weapons on the offense, and 88 has never been the focal point. We also understand some of this is on Mr. Goedert. He's had issues staying healthy. He has missed 15 games over the past three seasons, and when he's been absent, Philly has proven they can win without him.
So, maybe those are a few of the reasons why Philly has chosen to act like he's expendable. Then, there are other things to consider. Now, he's aged past 30 years of age, and he's due $11.7 million next season.
Rumor has it the Birds are willing to cut him if they can't find a trade partner. An Eagles insider, Tim McManus, believes there's only one way he stays on the roster: by taking a pay cut. Recent reports still indicate, however, that Philly is still fielding offers.
Five potential Eagles trade partners who might show interest in acquiring Dallas Goedert
We're less than a week away from the 2025 NFL Draft, and the rumor mill continues to churn. Philly is expected to make a move given Howie Roseman's reputation.
This week, the Eagles' GM and head coach Nick Sirianni spoke with the media, and listening to Howie discuss his aggressive nature and lack of patience hasn't forced anyone away from assuming he has something up his sleeve again.
There's also this recent report from Jordan Schultz. This one popped up with the NFL's 90th annual selection meeting on the horizon:
While it appears teams are waiting Philly out in hopes of a release, the Birds may be able to find a trade partner. Here are a handful of destination franchises that make sense as possible landing spots.
New York Giants
Per Jordan Raanan at ESPN, the rival New York Giants reached out to Philly regarding a trade.
Though the report also expresses that trading for Goedert is unlikely, we know the call wouldn't have been made if there is no interest.
New Orleans Saints
Recently, an Eagles insider did a good job detailing why a trade involving Philadelphia, the New Orleans Saints, and Tanner McKee makes sense. We don't like that idea, but we can see why he'd connect those dots. By the same token, a swap involving these two teams also makes sense now that Kellen Moore and a couple of other former Philly assistants are in the Big Easy, but if we're being honest, we don't like that idea either.
Carolina Panthers
There's a strange connection between the Eagles and Panthers. Former Birds often find their way to Charlotte, North Carolina. Miles Sanders, Rasul Douglas, Darwin Walker, Kamu Grugier-Hill, and Torrey Smith come to mind. So do Sean McDermott and Kurt Coleman among others.
Jordan Matthews, another former Eagle, is also on the Panthers roster. The top man on their depth chart is Tommy Tremble. While we doubt Goedert will land with Carolina, we certainly aren't ruling out the theory either.
Arizona Cardinals
Cue the former assistant coaches who are familiar with Dallas Goedert angle. Jonathan Gannon is still keeping his head above water in Arizona, and the Cardinals are starved for talent.
Zach Pascal and Kyzir White followed J.G. to the desert in 2023. They signed Josh Sweat to a massive deal this offseason. Gannon no doubt had some say in bringing Sweaty over, and it stands to reason that he and his staff could see value in adding Goedert as another weapon on the offensive side of the ball for Kyler Murray.
Indianapolis Colts
Dallas Goedert's best and most productive seasons as an Eagle came with Colts head coach Shane Steichen as his coordinator. He hauled in 56 receptions for 830 yards and four TDs in 2021. He added 55 snags, 702 receiving yards, and three trips to the end zone to is resume in 2022.
Throw those seasons out, and Goedert has never enjoyed a campaign where he stacked more than 607 yards receiving. Some of that is attributable to having Zach Ertz as a teammate early on and having to take a back seat to A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley in recent seasons.
Then again, A.J. and DeVonta were here during Steichen's Eagles tenure (though A.J. and Dallas only shared Shane as an OC for one season). Still, with all that being said, based on the numbers Goedert tallied with having to share touches with so many great Eagles, he could really take off in an offense that would honestly need him to be one of its focal points.
