After announcing her split from Jax Taylor last year, The Valley cast member left their family home and spent the following months living in various rental properties. Brittany explained her decision in a February 2024 episode of her When Reality Hits podcast, saying she needed to “take some space for the sake of [her] mental health."
“I won’t get into too many details right now because this is still very hard to talk about and I’m taking things one day at a time,” she said. “I don’t know what the future holds, but right now, my focus is on being the best mom to Cruz. I love you guys. Pray for us. And everything will be just fine.”
The mother of one eventually returned to the property in September 2024, after Jax secured a townhouse and moved out of the Valley Village home he and Brittany purchased in 2019.

“Jax would not leave for seven months,” she told the outlet. “I even said that he could move into the rental houses that I paid for. He still wouldn’t do it. No matter what. I didn’t know if I was going to get a chance to come back here. I went looking for houses, and I did all these different things.”
Once she moved back into the home with her 4-year-old son, Cruz Michael Cauchi, Brittany decided to make an easy but symbolic change to the welcome mat.
“It used to say the Cauchis,” she told the outlet, referring to Jax's legal surname. “Changed that immediately.”
The mat now reads, "The Cartwrights."
Brittany Cartwright explains why she won't sell her Valley Village home
Brittany filed to divorce Jax in August 2024, several weeks before returning to her San Fernando Valley home. Although many divorced couples opt to sell their shared real estate, Brittany has no immediate plans to part ways with the property, which she considers her “safe space.”
“I wanted to be here. I feel like I made this house a home,” she explained. “Cruz was born here. This is his house. He’s got his pool outside. He’s got his swing set. He’s got his playroom. He’s got everything here… We’re not going anywhere.”

Brittany also made it clear that she owns the Valley Village home and covers all the bills herself.
“This is my house. I’m proud of myself, that I could do it by myself,” she said. “I’m a girl from Kentucky, and I never even thought I would have a house like this. [Jax] don’t [sic] help me, at all. Let me make that clear. He does not help me at all, with any of my bills. So I’m just proud of myself that I’m able to do it.”
