Broncos’ GM Surprise Attendance at Top QB’s Pro Day Gives Intriguing Insight Into Draft Stock

The Denver Broncos are not looking for a quarterback by any means. Despite having failed to re-sign Zach Wilson ; whom head coach, Sean Payton, was reportedly a fan of; Denver seems settled in their QB room, with second year Bo Nix being backed up by veteran Jarrett Stidham.

But this will not stop Broncos general manager George Paton from doing his due diligence on the signal callers in this year's draft, with the Denver Post's Luca Evans sharing a video revealing Paton watching Shedeur Sanders throw at Colorado's Pro Day.

Now, Paton is likely not scouting Sanders as a potential selection in the event that he falls to pick #20 in the first round. But as we have often seen in weaker draft classes, quarterbacks who are supposed to go early in the first often slip all the way down to the third and fourth round.

Currently on the Packers, Malik Willis was mocked to the Detroit Lions on numerous occasions in 2022 at #6 overall, only for Willis to end up with the Titans at #86.

On the chance that Sanders, who some believe will ultimately not even land in the first round of the draft, does fall into the later rounds, Paton's time watching the prospect could come in handy.

Perhaps this is also a signifier of broader perceptions of Sanders around the league; if Paton is taking the time to show to his Pro Day (which is admittedly still in-state for the Broncos GM), it could be an indication that the Colorado star has a chance to slide in the draft.

Especially considering the draft stock boost that is currently being received by Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart, who has a chance to be QB2 off the board come late April.
