The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 26-24 defeat at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium significantly diminished their playoff aspirations, as the Atlanta Falcons have now taken control of the NFC South with only two games remaining.

Having won four consecutive games following their bye, the Buccaneers had made significant strides in reasserting themselves as playoff contenders. However, their recent loss has introduced uncertainty into their postseason plans. Despite this setback, the Buccaneers can ill afford to let the disappointment linger, as they prepare to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 17.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield expects the team to take care of business.

“Obviously not the scenario we want to be in, but still have to take care of business,” Mayfield stated. “Obviously some things have to happen but if we don’t take care of business, that’s the mentality, it’s got to start there and got to do our job little details and everything that’s included in that to try and find a way to win.”

While the Buccaneers’ playoff path is no longer in their hands, they’ll look to maintain a sense of urgency and not concede the division to the Falcons without a challenge. The Falcons’ upcoming matchup against the 10-5 Washington Commanders presents an opportunity for Mayfield and the Bucs to stay within striking distance.

Tampa Bay’s playoff push has reached a critical juncture, with two season-defining games remaining. A setback against the Panthers would all but extinguish their postseason chances, making it essential for the Buccaneers to secure a win and maintain their momentum.
