Catelynn Lowell Explains Why She Wants to Be in Contact With Carly

“Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” star Catelynn Lowell is explaining why she wants to be in contact with her biological daughter, Carly, 15.

In a February 9 Instagram Story, Lowell referenced Carly’s adoptive parents, Teresa and Brandon Davis, blocked her. According to Lowell, she was informed that Carly wanted to see her and her husband, Tyler Baltierra, more before her adoptive parents ceased communication.

Catelynn Lowell Shares Heartbreaking Update On Relationship With Carly

“Before communication was cut I was told Carly was asking ‘why can’t we get together more?’ ‘Why can’t we get together with them for the holidays?’ ‘They would fly here to come see me.’ So in my heart I don’t feel like it’s her wanting this. If B&T would tell me it’s in fact Carly not wanting contact then I would respect that with all of me!” wrote Lowell in her Instagram upload.

In addition, she said she would stop publicly speaking about Carly if she was told that is what the teenager wants.

“And if her mom and dad called and said it’s what Carly wants I would be silent. You’ll wouldn’t hear a single thing from me again about the situation! Because at the end of the day SHE is what’s MOST important,” stated Lowell in her Instagram Story.

In “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” season 2, episode 17, Lowell and Baltierra met with adoption counselor Dawn Baker, who facilitated Carly’s adoption. During the conversation, Lowell said she was heartbroken that the Davises ended communication with her. After Lowell said she would never stop reaching out to Carly, Baker advised her and her husband to “take a step back” from trying to get in contact with their biological daughter. Baker said she was concerned about how the situation will impact Carly.

“You have to figure out how you can be the healthiest person in the midst of a broken relationship,” said Baker to Lowell.

On February 8, Baltierra took to his Instagram Story to share that he and Lowell took “Dawn’s advice & have since stopped sending gifts & updates.” He said that they have been sending messages to an email account that they will eventually give Carly the password to.

“We write to it often, so that way when she’s older & if/when she reaches out, we can give her the password for her to read at her discretion,” said Baltierra. “We only want her to have what we believe she deserves & that’s the truth,” wrote Baltierra.

In addition, he said that he and his wife will respect Carly’s wishes if she tells them that she does not want to be in contact.

Catelynn Lowell Said She Has Not Visited Carly Since 2022

In a January 2025 interview with Us Weekly, Lowell said she has not visited Carly since 2022. She said that the Davises essentially closed the adoption, which has been difficult.

Lowell said she is now focused on giving a voice to adoptees.

“I have just jumped into this new place in my adoption where now I’m just speaking to lots of adoptees. And I’m learning like what would have helped them. What would have benefited them? And now I’m doing a lot of education about that,” said Lowell to the publication.
