Catelynn Lowell Gives Update on How Her Daughters Deal With Distance From Carly

“Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” star Catelynn Lowell is opening up about the 2009 adoption of her eldest child, Carly.

In a January 2025 interview with E! News, alongside her husband Tyler Baltierra, Lowell said that Carly’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis, have ceased contact with her.

“I’m still blocked and they recently told me to quit sending gifts because it was inappropriate and uncalled for, just a whole bunch of things,” said Lowell to the publication.

Lowell then shared how her other daughters, Nova, 10, Vaeda, 5, and Rya, 3, feel about their distance from Carly.

“I think it’s just normal for them. But I do think that it is hard when they ask questions like, ‘Why aren’t we seeing her?’ Because that, in turn, affects them too,” said Lowell while speaking to the publication.

Lowell also said that she and her husband have “been very open and honest with [their] children that [they are] parenting about Carly and the decisions.”

“Nova will meet a stranger and tell them my whole adoption journey. And it’s just because we’ve been so open with it,” said Lowell during the interview.

While speaking to TooFab in January 2025, Lowell shared her thoughts about being blocked from contacting Carly and her adoptive parents.

“I still have no way of communicating with them, even if I wanted to,” said Lowell to the publication.

She said the situation has been “really hard” and has “brought up a lot of PTSD” regarding Carly’s adoption, which happened shortly after her birth.

“It just made a lot of emotions that happened in the hospital when we were placing her and stuff, like, resurface. And you almost like re-lived them. All over again, which is what PTSD does,” said Lowell during the interview.

She said that she and her husband have “leaned on each other a lot,” as well as their “support systems,” as they navigate this difficult time. In addition, she said she is focused on platforming individuals who were adopted.

“I’m just trying to do adoptee advocation. Like having adoptees use their voices. And speak their situations. And what would have helped them,” said Lowell to TooFab.

Catelynn Lowell & Tyler Baltierra Reacted to Claims They Were ‘Bashing’ Carly’s Parents

Us Weekly reported that Lowell and her husband took to social media to address claims they were “bashing” Brandon and Teresa Davis in the press. Baltierra wrote a message on his Instagram Story reacting to the claims, which Lowell later shared with her Instagram followers.

“Dear everyone who equates us sharing our adoption story as ‘bashing’ Carly’s parents. If a person expresses factual truth & that truth is perceived as ‘bashing, cruel, slander, negative, etc.’ then is the person who delivers that truth wrong/cruel? Or are the facts of that truth wrong/cruel?” wrote Baltierra in the February 4 Instagram Story. “If people are so uncomfortable with the facts regarding that truth, then they should re-evaluate the morality of that truth, instead of condemning & pointing fingers at the ones who just so happen to be delivering that truth. If you possess critical thinking skills, this should make sense to you.”
