Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Retiring Addressed Frankly At Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the middle of an unprecedented run in the NFL and with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the AFC West champs will cement their place in history.

With some Chiefs players getting older, most notably Travis Kelce, there is a thought that the Super Bowl might be the last game for some.

Of course, if the Chiefs lose, then some might go around again, but what about Patrick Mahomes? He is 29 years old and likely still has a lot of football left in him, right?

After finding out that Leo Messi will be in attendance watching the Super Bowl, the conversation shifted to how long Mahomes could play for, and with Messi 37 years old, Patrick revealed he at least wants to get past that.

“I want to get to 39 at least,” Mahomes said frankly. “I mean, especially if I'm still playing at the level that he's [Messi] playing at, then I'm going to try to be on the field. ...

"But I'm going to try to keep my body in shape and prepare myself that I can play as long as I can, as long as it doesn't take away from my family and I'm not hurting the football team.”

So we have at least another decade of Mahomes in the NFL, and we can already hear the collective groan of several AFC franchises that have been scarred by Mahomes and the Chiefs all too often.

The Chiefs are one win away from making history by becoming the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls, and the Eagles stand in their way in New Orleans. Mahomes has done a sharp job this week of ignoring silly anti-Chiefs narratives - "I don't care!'' - he said of the goofy idea that the games are "fixed'' to favor his team - and now he's talking about staying sharp ... for a long time.

Longevity is something that NFL players crave, and for Mahomes, it is hard to believe he's only been in the league for eight years, given all the success he's had so early on in his career and if he can make it to 39 years old, that is a long NFL career.

Thankfully, we've got another decade of watching No. 15 do his thing.
