Chiefs to deploy a questionable new plan to address critical issue in Week 3 vs. Falcons

Reid fielded questions all week, not committing to Suamataia as the starter moving forward. Reid now says that Morris will also get a chance to prove himself against the Falcons.

"The two tackles will both have an opportunity to get in there this game," Reid told reporters on Friday. "The left tackles."

Asked about who might play more or less repetitions, Reid didn't advocate for one player or the other.

"We'll see how it goes as we roll," Reid said. "They're both ready to go."

That said, it's reasonable that Suamataia would get the first opportunity to keep his starting job but be given a short leash if things go awry. Through the first two games of the 2024 NFL season, Suamataia has allowed five total pressures, including two sacks. He's also drawn three flags. Across 242 pass-blocking snaps over 2023 and 2024, Morris has allowed 24 pressures and two sacks. He's drawn four flags during that span.

Could this potentially be gamesmanship from Reid? Asked about the last time, if ever, he's rotated left tackles in his career, the veteran head coach suggested this strategy might be a first.

"Listen, there is always something new for you," Reid said.
