Dana White has remained coy about his prediction for Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson, but believes it may not happen at all.
The UFC boss is close friends with boxing icon Tyson, and has simultaneously had an ongoing feud with YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul for years. And he feels that at the age of 58, the heavyweight legend shouldn’t be fighting at all, despite protestations from the man himself.
Paul and Tyson were set to do battle in July at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, but that fight was called off due to the latter having an unexpected health issue. And White is still not sure if the new date will work out with two months to go until fight night.
Mike Tyson offers worrying update ahead of Jake Paul fight
With almost two months to go until the newly scheduled date, there is still a lot of concern with fans regarding Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson. Many fear that Tyson, who last fought as a professional in 2005 and has otherwise taken on just a couple of exhibitions, could be hurt even training for the bout.
Put on top of that the fact that Paul is an active professional boxer with a 10-1 record, there are serious worries about the fight. And during a recent appearance at Cage Wars 67 where he was on commentary, he provided a concerning update on his health.
“It’s hard to walk right now,” Tyson stated in a concerning update, before insisting that he would be 100 per cent by fight night. “But two months from now I’m going to be perfect. The fight is won in the gym. Listen, I’ll do anything that will help me.”
Dana White unsure if Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul will go ahead
The November 15 date for Paul vs Tyson marks a strange development for boxing as the big fight takes place on a Friday night. That same weekend, the UFC will pit heavyweight champion Jon Jones against Stipe Miocic in their own heavyweight title showdown at UFC 309 in New York City.
And UFC boss Dana White is not paying too much attention to the competitor that weekend, despite the fact it will be drawing eyeballs from his build-up. They won’t be head-to-head as the MMA promotion runs Saturday night.
During a Q&A with media in Dublin this week White appeared not to know when the fight even was. And asked for a prediction, he repeated that “I’m hoping what you’re all hoping.” Pressed on if the fight would even happen, he replied “I don’t know, that remains to be seen.”
Jake Paul and Mike Tyson face off at 105,000+ venue as fight promotion kicks into gear
Certainly Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions are moving ahead with the fight as planned, and have kicked off promotion in style in recent days. They staged a massive press conference at Fanatics Fest in New York last month that attracted over 2,000 fans.
And last weekend they brought Paul and Tyson to AT&T Stadium in Dallas, where the bout is set to take place on November 15. They faced off on the pitch and were shown regularly in the stadium, also sharing a face-to-face with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Jones was highly complimentary of the younger Paul brother, telling the social media star: “I admire you very much.” Paul then later claimed that the business tycoon branded him “the best marketer in sports,” and declared he was “Jerry Jones approved.”
