Davante Adams names Tampa Bay Buccaneers star ‘one of my favorite players of all time’

Davante Adams has had an unconventional year, to say the least. The New York Jets wide receiver started the year with the Las Vegas Raiders but it might be easy to forget that.

Adams was traded to the New York Jets in October as part of Woody Johnson’s attempt to rebuild the team on the fly after a 2-3 start. Adams wanted out around that time and was open to joining the Jets and the Saints, per Adam Schefter. Of course, neither option ended the season the way the team wanted.

At one point, Adams also pondered retirement. Put simply, his year has run the gamut. Despite a tough season, Adams has one receiver he can root for going into the postseason.

Davante Adams declares one of his favorites

Speaking in a January 10 interview on ‘Up and Adams,’ Davante Adams revealed one veteran Tampa Bay Buccaneers player he viewed above almost all others.

He said: “Mike Evans, who is one of my favorite players of all time and favorite people of all time, I’m rooting for him probably more than anybody on that list to just keep going crazy because his career is something that just needs to be studied.

“In my opinion, he could retire like tomorrow and they got a spot waiting for him in five years. So I’m always rooting for him, just that I want to see him keep going.”

Evans recently eclipsed 1000 yards on the season in one of the final plays of the 2024 regular season. The wide receiver has earned at least 1000 yards every season since he joined the league in 2014.

Tyreek Hill proves Mike Evans’ 1000-yard streak will fall in 2025

At this point, as impressively consistent as Evans has been in his career, his squeaky-clean resume will get its first ding. This season was as close as he got. Well past the age of 30, Evans will be heading into an age 32 season next year. Evans missed the most amount of games he has since 2019 as well.

Tyreek Hill, who had been a lights-out bonafide league leader in receiving yards, had some injury issues down the stretch of his 2023 season. In 2024, despite putting up 1799 yards in 2023, fell under 1000 yards for the first time since 2019. Hill is also on the plus side of 30.

As such, while Evans can still contribute at a good level, his 1000-yard streak would have ended had the NFL kept a 16-game season and it will end next year.
