The Denver Broncos and some of their players aren't having the best Christmas so far. Well, the team is, as they are still one game and one win away from making the playoffs. But some of their players are having a tough time with the NFL.
And, no, not a tough time as in they aren't playing well, a tough time as in the NFL is giving them a tough time. They are fining players left and right this year, and the Broncos got fined a few times from their game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Of course, we all likely know by now that Brandon Jones, a defensive back for the Broncos, was fined twice on Saturday for something he did against the Colts last week, not for anything that happened against the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to the Gameday Operations site, Jones was called for an unnecessary roughness (hip-drop tackle) penalty that will cost him $16,883.00. He was also fined for an unnecessary roughness (late hit) penalty worth $11,255.00. That is over $28 thousand alone just for that game. That is not the Christmas present he thought he would be getting.
Broncos' Nik Bonitto fined by the NFL
Now, Nik Bonitto, a Defensive of the Year candidate, is being fined a good chunk of change. Of course, this comes from his pick-six, where he made an obscure gesture, as the league's front office is calling it when he celebrated.
Bonitto's fine comes in as unsportsmanlike conduct (obscene gestures) for $8,791.
That's a lot of money for a guy who is still on his rookie contract, with Christmas just a few days away.
