Entering the offseason following the 2024 NFL season, the Denver Broncos could look to move on from a few players.
Running back Javonte Williams is someone whose time might be coming to an end this spring.
Williams was one of the most exciting young running backs in the NFL during his rookie season in 2021. Sadly, a rough knee injury saw him decline rather quickly and not return to where he was that year.
Williams is a free agent this offseason, and Sayre Bedinger of FanSided predicted he won't return next year.
"At this point, it feels like a foregone conclusion that the former second-round pick out of North Carolina will not be back for the Denver Broncos in 2025. Javonte Williams was one of the most exciting young backs in the NFL in 2021 during his rookie season, but a tragic knee injury in 2022 has left him in a state where he's just a shell of that player we saw back in 2021 and in his time at UNC," Bedinger wrote.
With Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, and Tyler Badie all under contract, there isn't much room for Williams anymore, especially after he had his second-worst showing in terms of rushing yards for the Broncos last season.
Williams finished the year with 139 rushing attempts for 513 yards. He tied his career-high in rushing touchdowns with four.
He was second on the team behind rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who finished with 430 yards on just 92 carries.
Perhaps Denver could re-sign him to a cheap deal, but even that might not make much sense.
