Derek Hough Teases New Documentary: ‘It’s Coming Soon!’

Dancing With The Stars fans felt shocked and concerned in December 2023 when Derek Hough announced his wife Hayley experienced a medical emergency while on tour. She suffered a cranial hematoma while performing, requiring prompt medical attention. The Houghs postponed the remainder of the tour to focus on Hayley’s care and recovery.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the end of their story. Thanks to her care team and sheer determination, Hayley Erbert Hough was able to dance again. They later continued on the tour and even gave a special performance on DWTS Season 33.

And now, Derek and Hayley are making a documentary about their lives following the December 2023 incident. Read on to see what fans can expect from the upcoming film.

Hayley Erbert & Derek Hough Reveal They’re Making A Documentary

Hayley Erbert Hough and her loved ones feel tremendously grateful that she survived her medical emergency. She and Derek feel even more thankful she wanted to dance again. Although the odds were certainly stacked against her, Hayley wanted to keep pursuing the life she loved so much. 

As fans wait for DWTS Season 34 to premiere this fall, Derek and Hayley briefly touched on their latest project. They’re making a documentary about Hayley’s road to recovery.

“We’re still in the process right now of finishing it up,” the DWTS judge shared with PEOPLE. “But it’s actually beautiful.”

“I just watched some things back from it and I’m like, just seeing her hair and where she’s come. It’s amazing,” Derek added. “We can’t wait to share it with everybody. It’s really special.”

“It’s been a wild journey, to say the least,” Hayley chimed in.

DWTS Fans Fawned Over Hayley’s Grand Return To The Stage

During DWTS Season 33, Derek and Hayley performed their annual special routine. But this season, the circumstances were certainly different. Their performance marked Hayley’s first big return to the stage following her hospitalization and emergency surgeries.

Their routine had audience members and viewers at home alike in tears. And according to the couple, they struggled to hold themselves together too.

“When they played the package, that’s when I started losing it, because I actually haven’t seen a lot of the footage in quite some time because I’ve just been focusing on progressing every single day,” Hayley shared with PEOPLE immediately after the episode. “And so to go back to that, I was just flooded with emotions, but it was extremely special to be out here.”
