Details Emerge on Attempted Murder Charge Against Ex-Steelers WR Antonio Brown

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is wanted on a charge of attempted murder, with a new report sharing details about the alleged incident that led to his warrant.

David Ovalle of the Washington Post reported that Brown is wanted in Miami-Dade County in relation to a shooting at a celebrity boxing match on May 16. Police had responded to reports that shots were fired outside the venue, which led them to briefly detain Brown before releasing him with no charges.

New details from police allege that Brown was involved, with police now seeking his arrest.

As Mike McDaniel of SI.com reported, Brown was accused of fighting with another man and then taking a gun from a security officer. Brown is then accused of running toward the man he had fought.

“The victim told authorities that Brown ran toward him with a firearm and shot at him twice,” McDaniel reported. “The victim and Brown struggled over the weapon until authorities arrived on the scene. The victim was later treated for injuries and released from the hospital.”

Police had initially detained Brown at the scene, but he did not have a weapon on him at the time.

After several All-Pro seasons with the Steelers, Brown’s NFL career unraveled near the end as he endured controversy and suspensions. He last played in the 2021 season, leaving the field during a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game and quitting the team.

Brown Had Opened Up on Alleged Shooting

Brown had already spoken out on the May shooting, taking to social media afterward to refute reports that he had been arrested. At the time, Brown claimed that a group of people tried to attack and rob him.

“Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” Brown said in a post on X. “Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

Bronw added that he planned on pressing charges against the people he claimed had attacked and attempted to rob him.

“I will be talking to my legal (counsel) and attorneys on pressing charges on the individuals that jumped me. I will keep you all posted step-by-step on the process. Thank you for the support and love #AB#84.”

Brown has been in legal trouble in the past, including a 2023 arrest on charges of unpaid child support. As Local 10 News reported at the time, Brown was released on $15,000 bond. Wiltrice Jackson told TMZ that Brown owed close to $31,000 to care for their daughter.

Jackson said at the time that she did not wish to see Brown arrested, but wanted him to pay the back child support that he owed.

“I do want him arrested,” Jackson told TMZ. “Because, right now, he’s making a mockery out of the judge, out of everything, because he feels like he’s untouchable.”
