Dillian Whyte will return to action on August 16th, when he competes in a heavyweight bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It will be Whyte’s first fight since December 2024, as he looks to make it four wins in a row since losing to Tyson Fury.
Whyte will have to do what no other man has done when he faces Moses Itauma, who has never been defeated. With a perfect 12-0 record, ‘The Body Snatcher’ is aiming to spoil the 20-year-old’s streak.
However, Itauma was not the only fighter that was offered to Whyte for his next fight.
Moses Itauma was the only one of three choices that Dillian Whyte could accept
Whyte has revealed in a recent interview with IFL TV that Itauma was just one of three names that was offered to him for a heavyweight bout.
“There were three fighters offered, AJ, Parker, and him [Itauma].”
Despite Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker being significant names in the heavyweight division, it seemingly wasn’t Whyte’s choice to not compete with them.
Speaking on the New Zealander, Whyte said, “Parker was humming and hawing.” Parker is likely to wait for his opportunity to face Oleksandr Usyk, as he has made his intentions clear that he wants to face the undisputed champion.
For Joshua, Whyte said, “AJ had to have an operation on his elbow, and was trying to say, ‘wait’.”
Although Whyte was tempted to wait for the return of Joshua, he says that getting offered a fight with Itauma ‘interested’ him. “He’s young and hungry, and he’s got a lot of knockout power.”
Dillian Whyte describes himself as ‘cannon fodder’ for Moses Itauma
When initially asked about his upcoming meeting with Itauma, Whyte seemingly had a pessimistic outlook on the bout.
Previewing the fight, Whyte said, “They [Itauma’s team] believe they can beat me. They believe they got me at the right time.
“Obviously, I haven’t been the most active, ups and downs and stuff. You know, I haven’t had a lot of fights the last few years. So they’re banking on that.
“He’s the next Mike Tyson as they say. I’m just a nobody. I’m just a guy from Brixton… I’m just cannon fodder basically.”
Whyte didn’t say that he predicts a loss when he faces Itauma, but thinks many people believe the 20-year-old will stop him.
