Retired “Dancing With the Stars” pro Cheryl Burke has revealed the reason why Tom Bergeron dropped out of a gig. As it turns out, Bergeron was supposed to co-host Burke’s “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” podcast, but decided against it.
“I was supposed to do it with Tom Bergeron, right? This podcast was originally Tom and I,” Burke said on the January 20 episode of the “Old-ish” podcast.
“When Len Goodman passed away was when it hit him, we were literally about to sign the contracts and he was just called me and he’s like, ‘I just, I can’t do it.’ And I am grateful for that decision because I don’t think this podcast would be still going, put it that way, if Tom was involved because Tom is also like, for sure in Tom’s life, I’m not going to speak for him, but he’s accomplished so much. I feel like I haven’t started my career yet,” she added.
Bergeron parted ways with “Dancing With the Stars” in 2020. Goodman died in April 2023.
Tom Bergeron Was a Guest on Cheryl Burke’s Podcast
Despite his decision not to co-host “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” alongside Burke, Bergeron was a guest on the show.
On an October 2023, episode, he and Burke discussed the controversy surrounding the podcast.
“It really pissed me off that you’re getting some heat for this,” Bergeron told Burke. “It’s just like [expletive] get a life. Relax. If you don’t like it, don’t listen. Don’t watch. Move on,” he continued.
“You really know who your friends are when you’re up, right? But it’s when you’re down or struggling, you really know who your true friends are. The takeaway, I guess, for me is just to focus on what I do have as opposed to what I had or that feeling of lack,” Burke said, telling Bergeron that a pro from the show “came at” her.
“Those people in my life showed me their true colors,” she added.
Cheryl Burke’s Podcast Has Ended
Despite its popularity, Burke announced that her podcast won’t continue on in 2025.
“I have a bittersweet, I guess, announcement,” Burke said on the December 30, 2024, episode of “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans.”
“I just want to say to you guys that I, as I sit down, you know, I’m to share this message. My heart is honestly just filled with so much gratitude and it’s been such a emotional, I guess, few weeks or a few days since making the decision to pause this podcast. This has been an incredible journey,” she continued.
The podcast, which was first announced in 2023, featured interviews with former cast members, competitors, and pros from the show.
