DWTS Star Derek Hough Lands Major Gig Before DWTS Season 34

Season 34 of “Dancing With the Stars” premieres in a matter of weeks, and fans are eagerly waiting for the official cast announcement. Ahead of the upcoming DWTS news, judge Derek Hough just announced he has a new gig, and it’s a big one.

Fans and colleagues were quick to share their excitement over the major development.

On August 13, “Extra” shared the big news via Instagram. The caption read, “Breaking News @derekhough is your new #ExtraTV Host!”

Hough’s first appearance as the new “Extra” host comes on September 8.

As Us Weekly noted, Hough joining “Extra” isn’t the only big change happening this fall with the show. In addition, long-time correspondent and host Billy Bush is leaving.

Hough told Us Weekly, “The ballroom has been my stage, my home and my launchpad. Now, I’m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of ‘Extra.'”

He continued, “I’m truly looking forward to collaborating with this incredible team, diving into this next creative chapter and connecting with fans and audiences in a whole new way.”

Us Weekly noted that Hough will also be back on “Dancing with the Stars” for season 34 as a judge.

Bush’s exit from “Extra” was announced in May. He revealed he decided to leave the show after five years, turning his attention to building his podcast, “Hot Mics.”

“Dancing with the Stars” fans had a lot to say about the announcement that Hough would add “Extra” to his already busy schedule.

In the “Dancing with the Stars” subreddit, one fan commented, “Oh interesting!! I never really expected this!”

The Instagram announcement post from “Extra” was flooded with notes congratulating Hough. Both “Dancing with the Stars” colleagues and fans expressed their excitement over the big news.

Sasha Farber commented with a string of emojis, as did Hough’s pregnant wife, Hayley Erbert, and Hough’s sister, “Dancing with the Stars” co-host Julianne Hough.
