It was all Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, as they dominated in a 40-22 blowout. The Eagles led 24-0 at halftime, marking the second-largest halftime lead in Super Bowl history.
While many players contributed to the win, the Eagles' defense truly set the tone, forcing three turnovers and sacking Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes a career-high six times.
Despite the stellar team effort, the Super Bowl MVP award went to Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts deservedly earned the honor, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards, three total touchdowns, one interception, and 72 rushing yards.
However, following the game on Tuesday, Eagles defensive standout Josh Sweat revealed that he believes he should have won the MVP award. Despite this, he expressed that he was perfectly fine not receiving it.
“I should’ve had it,” Sweat said. “I could’ve had it. It’s all good, though.”
Sweat bet on himself this season and is now entering an offseason where he will be one of the most sought-after pass rushers on the free-agent market, especially after his standout performance in the Super Bowl.
In the game, Sweat recorded six tackles, six quarterback pressures, three quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss.
He completely changed the game with his relentless ability to get to Mahomes, and many of his pressures led to poor plays by the Chiefs offense. Both of Mahomes' interceptions came as a result of pressure from the Eagles defense up front.
The seven-year veteran finished the season with eight sacks, 237 combined tackles, 54 tackles for loss, and 97 quarterback hits, helping anchor an Eagles defense that was one of the best in the league all season long.
