Eagles' suggested one last offseason move punches their ticket to Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles' roster is stacked with talent on both offense and defense, making it easy to believe this is a Super Bowl champion team again. Do they have all the pieces in place to make it happen though?

Some suggestions within the media have been to bring in a veteran edge rusher or safety to add more experience to the young defense. Others have looked at their offense to see where the biggest gap is for a unit that has 10 of their 11 starters back from 2024.

ESPN.com NFL analyst Aaron Schatz made suggestions on one final roster move each team should make before training camp begins. Schatz's suggestion to the Eagles was going after free agent wide receiver Tyler Boyd.

"One thing the Eagles could use is more depth at the wide receiver position, particularly a slot receiver who can open underneath and convert third downs. Keenan Allen would fit, but we have him going to the Dolphins, so how about Boyd here?

Boyd had just 39 catches for 390 yards with Tennessee last season, but he was an important part of the Bengals' offense from 2016 to 2023. Jahan Dotson feels like he's in a better position to be productive in his second season in the Eagles' offense, but Boyd would provide a strong backup in case he is not."

Should the Eagles sign Boyd or ride it out with Dotson?

Even at age 25 and one year under his belt, the Eagles trading for Dotson with the Washington Commanders looked like a flop after his 2024 season. He made just 19 catches for 216 yards in 17 regular-season games. Dotson did grab a touchdown in the postseason, though.

Boyd has at least proven to be a productive number two or three receiver on the Bengals and Titans. He has two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt and has played every role he's been called on to play.

Both receivers play different styles at the receiver position. Dotson is smaller and a better fit for the slot. Boyd is lengthier and can work well on the outside.

The Eagles had a telling sign of how they felt about Dotson when they declined his fifth-year option on his rookie deal. There's still hope he will rise to the occasion and be the number-three receiver they need him to be.

It's clear that Boyd is the safer pick, but the Eagles are trying to get younger, so they would most likely prefer to stick with Dotson. Both guys on the field, though, would give Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts plenty of receivers to throw it to. It's not a bad option to have in the back pocket.
