Former MVP QB Top Fit for Raiders After Minshew Sidelined for Season

The Las Vegas Raiders are having a nightmarish season that only got worse on Sunday with two significant losses.

The first loss was the result of an AFC West Divisional game against the Denver Broncos, which dropped the Raiders to 2-9 and effectively ended a season that was long bereft of hope prior to this weekend. The second came in the form of starting quarterback Gardner Minshew, who is out for the year after suffering a broken bone against Denver.

"#Raiders QB Gardner Minshew broke his collarbone and is out for the season, sources tell me and [Mike Garafolo]," Ian Rapoport of NFL Network posted to X on Nov. 24. "A frustrating end for Minshew."

Aidan O'Connell, who has also started at quarterback for the Raiders this season, remains sidelined with a fractured thumb. As such, it is now Desmond Ridder who will presumably take the reins of the offense moving forward.

A former member of the Atlanta Falcons, Ridder joined the Raiders mid-season and appeared in his third contest for the team on Sunday. He completed 5-of-10 passes for 64 yards as part of the Raiders' 10-point defeat.

Las Vegas has nothing left to play for, aside from locker room pride and morale, so going after free agents like Ryan Tannehill or Daniel Jones makes little sense. However, the New York Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers are at odds, which could result in his release next spring -- if not before then.

"I’m told no decisions have been made yet, but it appears increasingly likely that the four-time MVP, who is banged up, could be placed on injured reserve or possibly benched over the next few weeks, signaling the end of his disastrous time with the Jets," Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Saturday. "Some around the league say they won’t be surprised if Rodgers
