Gary Shirley blasted Amber Portwood as an absentee parent on last night’s episode of Teen Mom OG but quickly apologized to her after the episode aired.

During last night’s show, Gary and his wife, Kristina Anderson, were seen blasting Amber for suggesting she needed a break from their daughter, nine-year-old Leah, after her messy split from ex-fiance Matt Baier.

According to Gary, Amber saw Leah just twice last summer during her break from school.

“Amber’s not there. She’s a come and go kind of mom,” Gary said. “Some people want to be parents, some people are parents, and some people just don’t give a f**k I guess.”

Gary, 31, then took aim at Amber’s need for a “break,” pointing out that millions of parents around the world continue to be parents — even when life forces them to go through personal hardships.

“I can’t take a break. Millions of parents can’t take a break because they had a bad day at work or because they got a divorce,” he told Kristina. “I’m simply saying, ‘You broke up with Matt, got another boyfriend, before you even seen your kid.’ That’s my problem right there. Put your damn kid first!”

After the episode aired, Gary seemed to have a change of heart and regretted sharing his harsh thoughts on camera.

He tweeted, “@AmberLPortwood I know we have overcome a lot since tonights episode was filmed however, I feel horrible For the things I’ve said in tonights episode & probably next weeks as well. I’m sorry & I want to continue to strengthen the co-parenting relationship we have. Plz forgive me.”

@AmberLPortwood You’re my baby Mama & even if I’m given a reason to be upset with you I should still respect you. I’m not perfect and I never will be. I want your time with baby James to be precious and I don’t wanna bring you down from this joyful time in your life. Again sorry.

On last night’s Teen Mom OG, Amber, 27, attempted to defend her parenting, claiming that she actually saw Leah three times last summer, despite spending tons of time on Los Angeles with her boyfriend Andrew Glennon, who lived in the area at the time.

“For them to act like I’ve been an absent mother, you know that’s bulls**t,” Amber said. “I’m not an absent mother, I’m there for my kid.”

During a previous episode, Amber explained that because of her mental health struggles, she chose to keep her distance from Leah at times last year in an effort to keep her protected from her ups and downs.

“I’m not as strong as people think — sometimes I’m broken,” she explained. “But I don’t need people to understand that, what I need is for Leah to know that I love her. And I feel like if her dad and her step-mom are talking s**t about her mother, she’s going to start thinking these things, if she ever hears it. That stuff bothers me.”
