Gervonta Davis Performs Massive U Turn On Next Fight And Names Who He Now Wants: “Say No More”

Many feel that Gervonta Davis is lucky to still be in possession of his WBA World Lightweight Title after this weekend’s main event in Brooklyn.

Lamont Roach Jr moved up from super-featherweight to challenge ‘Tank’, stepping through the ropes a considerable underdog and looking to become just the third man to face the champion who hasn’t been knocked out.

Roach did more than just survive, however, exchanging with Davis throughout and even wobbling him. After twelve rounds, one judge at ringside had it 115-113 in ‘Tank’s favour, whilst the remaining two couldn’t split the fighters and called it 114-114.

The majority draw verdict would be extremely different had referee Steve Willis called a knockdown in round nine when Davis voluntarily took a knee. The champion did so, went over to his corner and had his coach wipe his face, later revealing that it was ‘grease’ from a recent hair appointment that was causing the issue.

Willis has been widely criticised for failing to make the appropriate call and give ‘Tank’ a count, preventing Roach from a world title upset victory. On the incident, Davis said he still believes he won the fight.

“They took the fight from me and made it a draw because I did that bulls**t knee… But I landed the most punches in the fight. He didn’t even hit me with a punch when I took the knee. I get it though, I shouldn’t have done that but that hair grease was burning my eyes!”

Though ‘Tank’ said he would be open to a second fight with Roach, he made it clear during the post-fight press conference that it would not be next for him.

The knockout artist from Baltimore has now u-turned on that position, confirming via X, formerly Twitter, that he is ‘pushing for the rematch.’

And say no more. I’m pushing for the rematch.

He then said the fight could take place as soon as May.

The WBA’s President, Gilberto Mendoza, has said in the aftermath that a second meeting between the pair is appropriate and may be ordered to take place.
