Who Is Guy Gansert?

Guy Gansert is one of 24 senior men pursuing Joan Vassos on the first season of The Golden Bachelorette. Joan previously appeared on The Golden Bachelor but didn’t get a real shot at love with Gerry Turner because she left early to deal with a family situation.

Gansert is an emergency room doctor from Reno, Nevada. He earned a lot of praise from fans for his gentle conversation with fellow suitor Charles Ling about Charles’ wife’s death. Charles was confused why his wife’s mouth was bloody if she died from an aneurysm. Dr. Gansert kindly explained that Charles’ wife likely injured her mouth during the incident. His calm and matter-of-fact answer gave Charles L. the closure he needed to move on.

Guy Gansert was previously married for over 30 years to a well-known Nevada politician. He has four children and one grandchild. According to his ABC bio, the ER doc planned to hike Mount Kilimanjaro this fall.

Those plans are now on hold after he was injured while filming the popular reality show.

Golden Bachelorette Suitor Injured During Filming

Guy Gansert took to his Instagram in early September to share a health update with fans. The Golden Bachelorette contestant was laid up on the couch with one leg heavily bandaged from above his knee to his calf.

“So, besides having a “Transformational Journey” during the filming of the Golden Bachelorette, I take full responsibility for thinking my body is 25 years old instead of being in my “Golden Years,” he wrote in the caption.

What happened? Gansert explained, “My left knee required surgery for a meniscus tear(cartilage). I’ll be back to my old self in no time. Unfortunately, my plans to hike Mount Kilamanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, followed by a safari in three weeks will have to wait until next year.”

The show hadn’t started airing at the time, so his post about his injury went under the radar. But now that he’s a front-runner on the show, fans wanted to know how the recovery is going. One of his social media followers asked two weeks ago for an update. The Golden Bachelorette star replied, “A little better every day”

He didn’t reveal how exactly he got injured, but we know it wasn’t during the show’s upcoming striptease group date. He wasn’t one of Joan Vassos’ suitors to take it all off for a good cause.
