After all, the Golden Bachelor star has found a new partner nearly one year after finalizing his divorce from contestant Theresa Nist, whom he wed at the end of the dating show.
Gerry is now dating retired teacher Lana, whom he met through Facebook, he told TMZ April 24. The former educator reached out to the reality star—who revealed in December he had been diagnosed with an incurable bone marrow cancer—but he initially ignored her message.
Gerry, 73, eventually decided to respond after Lana told him that she grew up 20 minutes away from him in Indiana, he explained. The couple went on their first date last month and his new love has gotten comfortable with his kids.
Gerry—who confirmed his split from Theresa, 71, last April after three months of marriage—first teased his new relationship earlier this month.
"I am dating someone," Gerry said on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast April 15. "I think at this point it's going well. But I don't want to say too much and jinx it and I'm trying to respectfully get to a point where there's an acceptable amount of time from my divorce."
"Maybe that's an old-fashioned thought," he continued, "maybe it doesn't matter as much as I think it does, but to be respectful, I kind of want to slow roll this."
Gerry—who is dad to daughters Jenny, 50, and Angie, 42, with his late wife Toni Turner—has been enjoying every moment.
"I think the fun part there is she has daughters that I really relate to, and she relates well to my daughters," he explained. "So we've been around each other briefly. It's been fun. It's been a very enjoyable encounter."
He's even found himself stepping out of his comfort zone more and more, thanks to Lana.
"The person I'm dating will say, 'Do you want to go do…'" he said, "and before she gets out the rest of the sentence, I will say, 'Yes.'"
And where does he stand with Theresa? Even though the former couple is no longer together, Gerry knew it was for the best.
"Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations," he explained alongside his ex on Good Morning America in April 2024, "and we've looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and we've come to the conclusion mutually that it's probably time for us to dissolve our marriage."
Meanwhile, Theresa added, "We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched The Golden Bachelor, and I don't think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody."
