The Bachelor franchise has been suffering from major scandals in the most recent seasons, and I’m convinced they’re using The Golden Bachelorette ’s Gil Ramirez’s current drama to cover up for their lack of care with The Bachelorette ’s Devin Strader being cast. Gil, one of the men vying for Joan Vassos’ affection on The Golden Bachelorette season 1, has been shown in a poor light as the season’s getting started, especially after Bachelor Nation discovered he had serious past struggles. After the issues that came to light about Devin, who recently won Jenn’s heart on The Bachelorette, the timing is off.
Throughout the run of The Bachelor franchise, which began with the titular series in 2002, there have been issues with contestants and leads that don’t come to light until after the season’s end. While some issues have been more current, like the legal issues that occurred with Chris Soules after The Bachelor season 19, others have been the discovery of poor behavior in contestants’ pasts. While The Bachelor franchise claims to background check the cast members that appear on their shows, it’s clear that their parameters of what’s safe and what isn’t are loose, or at least allow for error.
The fact that Bachelor producers jumped to smooth the issue over on the new series and tried to bury it for Devin is suspect.
The Show Is Cutting Gil Ramirez’s Screentime After Restraining Order Resurfaces
The Golden Bachelorette Contestant Isn’t Being Shown Frequently
After The Golden Bachelorette season 1 premiere, it came to light that there was an issue with one of the contestants. While Gil was on the first episode of the series, his involvement in the show will be at the absolute minimum moving forward with the revelation that an ex filed a restraining order against him in the past. Gil’s ex shared that as recently as this past May, Gil was seeking her out in an overwhelming, oppressive manner, calling and texting her upwards of 25 times per day.
While the restraining order against Gil was filed early in the summer, The Golden Bachelorette contestant seemed to have already passed his background check by the time it cleared. Gil has yet to speak out about the incident, but The Golden Bachelorette is taking action with the show, considering it’s in its earliest phase. The series has released a statement sharing they’ll be editing Gil out of the remaining episodes he appears in as much as possible, in hopes of making it clear they don’t condone his actions.
They Haven’t Shared Any Remorse Or Explanation
While producers were quick to speak up about Gil, the producers behind The Bachelorette season 21 have been quiet about the issues that have come to light regarding their most recent winner, Devin. While Devin and Jenn Tran are no longer together, the damage that he could’ve done is palpable after learning about the restraining order his ex held against him. Devin’s violent past made it evident that Bachelorette viewers who have felt uneasy about him throughout the season were right to be on edge, but Bachelorette producers have yet to take any accountability for allowing him on the show.
The Bachelor Franchise Is Covering Up Devin’s Scandal By Taking Action With Gil
They’re Making It Look Like They Do Their Due Diligence
Although Devin’s restraining order, which was filed in 2017 and has become public record, and Gil’s restraining order are different, the fact that Bachelor producers jumped to smooth the issue over on the new series and tried to bury it for Devin is suspect. I’m convinced the franchise is using Gil’s scandal to cover up the fact that they let Devin onto The Bachelorette at all. While they’re doing their best to speak up about Gil, the fact that they did nothing about Devin and continue to stay silent proves The Bachelor producers don’t care about their contestants or leads.
