The Bachelorette season 21’s producers had a dismal time in the casting process for Jenn Tran’s season, but I’m shocked that Devin Strader was cast on the series at all given his serious legal issues. While Jenn, who was introduced during The Bachelor season 28 as one of the contestants hoping to win Joey Graziadei’s heart, has been owning her independence after the show, her heartbreak has been very real. Jenn’s time as the lead of The Bachelorette season 21 was difficult for viewers to get through, especially by the end of the season, when she happily proposed to Devin.
While Jenn’s journey on the show was met with a happy ending, it was clear that there were issues from early on in her time promoting the show. Jenn and Devin’s relationship was working at first but quickly got tricky for the long-distance couple, and when they started to fight, Devin threw in the towel. Breaking up with Jenn after just a few months, the couple ended on a sour note and Jenn confronted Devin for his behavior during The Bachelorette: After The Final Rose. Even with the split confirmed, Bachelor Nation was shocked to learn more about Devin’s history.
Devin Strader Was Jenn’s Final Rose Recipient
Jenn Proposed To Devin
Throughout The Bachelorette season 21, it was clear that Jenn had a few front-runners who she was deeply interested in. Devin was one of the front-runners from early on, but Bachelor Nation didn’t find themselves interested in rooting for him. While Devin seemed to enjoy Jenn’s company, his relationship with her didn’t feel as genuine as others, and he fit the “villain” mold early in the season. Despite bringing the guys’ drama to Jenn often, Devin made it to the end of the season and found himself Jenn’s final rose recipient. The Bachelorette lead proposed during the show’s finale episode.
Devin Was Arrested For Trespassing In 2017
A Restraining Order Against Devin Been Discovered
Although Devin was certainly vetted to some degree by Bachelorette producers during his casting phase, it wasn’t shared with the public that Devin had some serious criminal charges lodged against him in the last decade. Devin’s ex-girlfriend alleged that he burglarized her home, and ultimately filed a restraining order against The Bachelorette star. While Devin seemed to violate the temporary restraining order several times early on, his ex-girlfriend continued to call the cops on him and ultimately, Devin was charged for trespassing.
After Devin was charged, he pled guilty and accepted the consequences of his actions. The stipulations around his release included staying away from the victim, paying several fines, and completing community service among a few other things. While Devin seemed to understand he’d made a mistake, his background having such a glaring stain should’ve clued The Bachelorette producers into his character and pushed them not to cast him.
Devin Being Cast Shows Producers Didn’t Care About Jenn
He Could’ve Been Dangerous
Although Devin’s legal situation hasn’t been prevalent in his life in over 5 years, there’s very little chance that The Bachelorette producers weren’t aware of the restraining order and trespassing charges. Devin’s background wasn’t discussed on the show, meaning Jenn likely didn’t know about the charges either. I believe it’s irresponsible for The Bachelorette producers to have cast Devin at all, knowing that he’s done something so extreme with an ex who broke things off. Devin being on the series simply proves that the show’s producers don’t have much care about their leads, and instead focus on making good TV.
