It would take a miracle for this Eagles rookie to survive training camp

Every year when training camp rolls around, fans are eager to watch a multitude of storylines unfold. For the Philadelphia Eagles, there's plenty to talk about as they look to defend their Super Bowl championship from last season.

But, this isn't about the big stories. We're here to talk about the overlooked and under-the-radar types because, let's be honest, some of these guys often only get any real attention during the summer. That can be said for the likes of Eagles undrafted rookie linebacker Lance Dixon, who has a significant uphill battle in making the roster.

Dixon, a linebacker out of Toledo this year, comes into a crowded group that the Eagles continued to invest in this offseason, making his unlikely run to a roster spot even more difficult.

It's been done before, but it's not done very often. Undrafted players do, indeed, go on to become all-time greats. At the very least, this has to be motivation for the former Toledo standout.

But, he goes into training camp in a linebacker room that has seen the Eagles spend a whopping three draft picks on the position. First-round pick Jihaad Campbell, fifth-round pick Smael Mondon Jr., and sixth-round pick Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. were investments made by Philly back in April.

Dixon was the freebie, so to speak. He was added immediately after the draft when he signed April 25th.

And, oh by the way, the Eagles also signed three free agents to join the linebacker group in Azeez Ojulari, Joshua Uche and Patrick Johnson.

Dixon has experience on his side having played at three different schools in college, with Penn State and West Virginia coming before his final stop. Last year, Dixon had his best season yet as he notched 46 total tackles (six for a loss), 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and four pass breakups.

Dixon comes into a position group where the Eagles added more to that room than any other on the team. Can he achieve the near-impossible over the next six weeks? We'll see.
