'It’s a Big Concern': Former NFL GM Reveals Philadelphia Eagles’ Biggest Worry

The Philadelphia Eagles are among the hottest teams in football right now.

As the NFL Playoff chase intensifies, the Eagles are fresh off a 34-6 shellacking of the Dallas Cowboys, are playing some of the most dominant defensive football of any team across the league, and are getting key contributions from two of the team’s top picks in this spring’s draft.

'It’s a Big Concern': Former NFL GM Reveals Philadelphia Eagles’ Biggest Worry

However, even as the Eagles look ahead to a clash against the Washington Commanders on Thursday night with significant postseason implications, and amid a five-game winning streak, there are still some flaws that could emerge for Philadelphia.

Former NFL Executive of The Year winner Jeff Diamond suggests that while the Eagles’ offensive line has been among the more dominant in the sport this season, that the amount of sacks Jalen Hurts has been forced to withstand is problematic.

“The surge has been fueled by strong play from Hurts,” Diamond writes for The 33rd Team. “Who is back to his Pro Bowl form with a passer rating over 115 in all five recent victories. He has rushed for 378 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, with the Tush Push still working well without retired All-Pro center Jason Kelce. It is a concern that he’s been sacked 26 times, the sixth-most.”

One way the Eagles have mitigated the potential damage done by Hurts’ sacks, is by asking him to shoulder less of the load on offense.

Since Philadelphia’s blowout loss to the Buccaneers back in Week 4, Hurts’ passing attempts have gone from 33 per game to 21 , while also doubling down on running back Saquon Barkley, who has rushed for 991 yards and six touchdowns so far this season.
