Grant's difficulties started on The Bachelorette season 21, where he was hopeful he'd fall in love with Jenn Tran throughout the season. While Grant and Jenn's connection didn't come to fruition, it became clear that Grant was going to be one of the front-runners to become the next lead. When it was announced that Grant would become The Bachelor, it was clear that he felt ready to move forward and, Bachelor Nation had hoped, he'd worked on his issues. It seemed possible that Grant had moved forward when he began his Bachelor journey, but eventually his new persona fell apart.

While Grant was doing everything he could to try and make the women of his cast feel at ease, he was also struggling to keep his genuine feelings at bay.
