Jake Paul committed one of boxing’s cardinal sins before his last fight against Mike Tyson.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer is currently preparing to face former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28.
It has been a much quieter build-up than his last outing, which saw fans angrily protest against him boxing a 58-year-old former heavyweight champion, who had been retired from the sport for almost two decades.
Jake Paul also upset some in the boxing fraternity by leaking sparring footage ahead of his unanimous decision win over Mike Tyson last November.
Jake Paul leaked sparring footage
In October 2024, Paul shared a video showing him dropping an unidentified boxer in sparring.
Talking about training sessions is a no-no in the boxing world, but the former Disney star went several steps further by leaking footage to send a warning to his iconic opponent.
“Don’t charge at me, Tyson,” Paul said to the camera after his knockdown.
6-0 heavyweight DeAndre Savage was quickly outed as the fighter Paul floored in sparring.
At the time, the 6ft 3in, 300lb prospect was ranked inside the WBA top 15, so it made Logan Paul‘s little brother’s leaked sparring footage even more impressive.
Savage was a bit annoyed to have gone viral for a flash knockdown, but he was still happy with the outcome after working with Paul.
“That was me,” Savage said at the time. “Jake came in and he caught me with a good right hand and I just went down to my knee and got back up, that was it.
“I also want to thank Jake and his team and his coach because for me being in that camp I was able to purchase my first home. I want to thank Jake Paul for that, we are in boxing to win fights and be successful, we’re here to make money – that’s why I’m in boxing.
“I don’t think it’s fair [to leak sparring footage], but I do understand the business”
Where is DeAndre Savage now?
Since being thrust into the spotlight, Savage has continued to rack up wins in the ring.
Four wins over low-level opposition have the 34-year-old boasting a 10-0 record in 2025.
Savage hasn’t competed since beating 3-4-1 fighter Eduardo Santana in January.
Despite his perfect record, Savage is no longer ranked in the top 15 by the WBA.
It’s currently unclear when, where, or who Paul’s former training partner will fight next.
