Jax admitted on the podcast he is currently focused on his sobriety journey and mental health, so the forecast is unpredictable in regards to his and Brittany Cartwright’s ongoing separation. Instead, Jax said, they are taking things “day by day” as they co-parent their son, 3-year-old Cruz Michael Cauchi.
“One day she’s happy, one day she’s mad. One day she’s happy, one day she’s mad,” Jax told Hot Mic host and Bravo producer Alex Baskin. “I never know what I’m gonna get with her.”
Where do Jax and Brittany stand today?
Jax is navigating new waters as he and his soon-to-be ex-wife figure out what’s next for them. With more than 80 days sober, following two in-patient stays for mental health and substance abuse treatment, Jax said he’s doing his best for Brittany and their shared son.
“I walk on eggshells, constantly, every day, as I should,” Jax said. “I just want her to know that I’m really, really trying.”
Jax claimed he’s done “everything she’s asked,” including rehab, therapy, and drug testing, to stay in Brittany’s good graces.
“I want to make her happy,” he continued. “I’m going above and beyond to show her that I do care, and I want to be in my son’s life, and I also want to be in [Brittany’s] life to some extent … that’s why I moved a mile away."
However, he does not think the pair will get back together.
He said maintaining a civil relationship was “very, very difficult,” adding, “There’s a lot of animosity, there’s a lot of hurt … especially by me.”
Where does Jax Taylor live now?
Jax had the choice to move anywhere he wanted but opted to be near his estranged wife and son. When explaining why to Baskin, he directed his words as though he was talking to Brittany.
“When I moved, I wanted to be a five-minute drive, in case you needed me; I wanted to always be there for you,” he said. “Whether or not you like me or not, you can always call me for everything, even when you start dating and being with somebody, I’ll always still be there.”
Jax admitted he was nowhere near “perfect,” but thanks to his well-earned sobriety, the couple's “hiccups” no longer have to revolve around Jax’s drug and alcohol use.
Still, "it’s going day by day right now,” Jax continued. “It’s gonna take a lot of time.”
As a gotta-fix-it-now kind of person, Jax admitted he's grown impatient with how far the former couple still has to go.
“I just want to get to a place where we’re good,” he said. “I don’t want time, and this is going to be one of those things that takes time, and it’s driving me crazy because I just want to fix the problem.”
Fans saw Jax and Brittany’s romance begin on Vanderpump Rules, with the two marrying on June 29, 2019. Together, Jax and Brittany weathered cheating scandals, new businesses, parenthood, and more. But, despite “a great 10 years together,” they just grew into two very different people, Jax said. They announced their separation in February 2024.
When asked by Alex about what he would like to say to Brittany if she were listening to the Hot Mic episode, Jax had a positive message.
“I just want her to know that I do love her. I think she’s an amazing person. I think she’s a great mother,” Jax answered. “I just think our time is up.”
