Joey Graziadei found love with Kelsey Anderson as The Bachelor‘s Season 28 lead, but the road to get there involved an audition! The stars aligned just right for Graziadei and Anderson. If they didn’t audition for Bachelor Nation shows, they never would have met!
Before he took on the leading man role, Graziadei was a suitor on Charity Lawson‘s season of The Bachelorette. Thankfully, Graziadei was ready to open up his heart and find love, so he submitted an audition tape. Bachelor Nation released the casting footage from Graziadei’s audition on May 14—and it did not disappoint.
At the time, Graziadei was living in Kauai, Hawaiʻi’. The tennis coach was candid about his ex-girlfriends and why his relationships didn’t work out.
“I’ve really only had two serious relationships in my life,” Graziadei said. “One when I first moved to the island, and one when I was living in Nashville. Both girls were amazing. I can say nothing but great things about them. Obviously, it didn’t work out. That’s why I’m trying to audition for this show right now.”
He admitted that his “first relationship” was with a “local girl.” Graziadei added, “She really taught me a lot about this island and all the beautiful things about it. At the end of the day, it just didn’t work out. She actually ended up getting interested in somebody else and that stuff happens. I know how that goes.”
Graziadei noted that his last relationship at the time had been with a girl in Nashville. “I was the one that ended that. It just felt like at the end of the day we couldn’t handle simple things well,” he revealed.
The Season 28 lead had dated girls in the past, but it was “nothing serious.” With his past romances, Graziadei was “trying to find reasons not to date.”
He continued, “I want to fall in love, that’s for sure. It seems like timing has always been more the issue. I don’t think I fall in love quickly, but I think that I’m very open to falling in love quickly, especially if things make sense.”
Meeting and falling in love with Anderson during Season 28 made all the sense in the world to Graziadei. The couple got engaged at the end of Season 28 and have since put down roots in Los Angeles after Graziadei’s mirrorball-winning turn on Dancing With the Stars.
Graziadei and Anderson are starting to plan their wedding, and they have an idea of where they want to tie the knot. “California, the Carolinas, the upper East Coast,” Anderson told Swooon at Hulu’s Get Real event. “I think that we’re open right now, but definitely want good weather, and California typically has good weather. But then the Carolinas do as well.”
