The hits just keep on coming for Leah McSweeney. The former Real Housewives of New York star engaged in lawsuits with Bravo and immediately lost in the court of public opinion. She’s become terrified of New York City and is ready to flee at any moment. Now, she just learned that she has Lyme disease, and she said that the diagnosis has left her feeling “shook.” 2024 is just not her year.
Leah opens up about her latest diagnosis
As Page Six reported, Leah shared the health update on her Instagram Stories. She posted a picture of the test results and asked for “success stories of healing from Lyme.” Someone get her in touch with Yolanda Hadid.
According to Leah, this is a new infection rather than a chronic one. Fortunately, there’s no way she can blame this one on Andy Cohen or Bravo. Lyme disease comes from the borrelia bacteria, which is transmitted to humans by ticks.
The most common symptoms are flu-like, but sometimes patients encounter facial paralysis and heartbeat irregularities. There’s also a signature rash that goes along with the infection. If left untreated, the infection can spread throughout the nervous system and into the joints.
On Instagram, Leah said that she felt “like sh-t” for the past couple of months before receiving a diagnosis. In another post on her Stories, she showed over a dozen vials of blood from her latest round of testing. She wrote, “Everything is great” along with a laughing emoji.
The CDC says that most cases of Lyme disease clear up with a few rounds of antibiotics. However, there’s a very small percentage of patients who experience long-term symptoms, ranging from fatigue to difficulty thinking. That’s what they call “chronic Lyme disease.”
For everyone who’s going to be running around outside this summer, let this serve as a reminder. Take steps to prevent tick bites.
