Lennox Lewis, the legendary former undisputed heavyweight champ, is hinting at a possible rematch with his iconic rival, Mike Tyson.
Tyson, now 58, is gearing up for a high-profile fight against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, set for November 15 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas.
The match is expected to draw a massive crowd of up to 90,000 fans. Originally scheduled for earlier this year, the bout was delayed when ‘Iron Mike’ had to back out due to an ulcer flare-up.
After some much-needed recovery, Tyson is back in training and confident he'll be ready to go toe-to-toe with the social media star next month.
However, fans are worried about Tyson’s health as he prepares for this battle. The boxing legend recently revealed he had trouble walking after sparring sessions.
Tyson hasn’t had an official professional fight in almost 20 years, his last being a loss to Kevin McBride.
He did make a brief comeback in an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, but a full-fledged return to the ring is a whole different challenge.
Tyson remains one of the most revered heavyweights ever, having taken down names like Marvis Frazier, Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, and Frank Bruno during his prime. But one of the few fighters who beat him was Lennox Lewis.
The two squared off in 2002, with Lewis winning by knockout in the eighth round, holding onto his WBC, IBF, IBO, and Ring heavyweight world titles.
Now, more than 20 years later, Tyson might be looking to even the score. When asked about a possible rematch, Lewis left the door open, telling TMZ, “Let’s see how he makes out in this fight first.”
“I have spoken to Mike, just about fighting. Let’s hope his health is ok. You can’t see things on the outside that may be affecting you on the inside. I wouldn’t want to say he is okay then all of a sudden something happens.”
