Lindsay Hubbard explained why she does not post her daughter Gemma‘s face on social media while appearing on Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick‘s podcast last week.
As she also spoke of Gemma’s future on Bravo, where she stands with ex-boyfriend Turner Kufe, and Carl Radke‘s recent comments about their relationship potentially getting friendlier, the 38-year-old Summer House star called out Carl, 40, for refusing to apologize to her for the humililating and traumatic way in which he broke up with her and admitted that she’s not allowed to share images of Gemma publicly.
“I can’t post her on social media. So I have to do it old school, you know, where I’m just like, ‘Here’s my daughter,’” Lindsay explained on the August 1 episode of Balancing Act with Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick, via Vanderpod Recaps on Instagram.
According to Lindsay, Turner doesn’t want their child to be a public figure. So while she is “very proud” and “excited” about Gemma, and wants to “show her off,” she has to respect his wishes.
“[It] is in our DNA to share and be open and share our lives publicly. And then all of a sudden, I found myself in a relationship with a very private person … and then I had a baby with that private person,” she shared. “Dad’s private. Mom’s public. What does that make baby? It’s been a very long journey, a lot of conversations. But to me, I have to pick and choose my battles in life. And it’s just not one that I feel like fighting him on.”
As for whether Gemma could ever appear on Summer House, Lindsay said she’s “trying to figure out everything with Gemma and filming.”
“[With] Bravo, you have to have both parents sign if the child’s not an adult,” she noted.
Although Lindsay and Turner aren’t on the same page when it comes to their lifestyles, Lindsay confirmed that they are “really good friends,” despite splitting shortly after Gemma’s birth.
“We have a really good relationship. We are great co-parents. He’s a phenomenal father, very present, active, involved, obsessed as much as me, and we communicate very well,” she revealed. “Do we have disagreements? Yes, we do. Are we different in our lifestyles? Yes, we are. But it is something that we have figured out.”
“I’m not going to put my feelings at the forefront of this. I’m going to put my baby first … [And] it’s really important for her to have a good solid relationship with her dad,” she added. “[We] are making sure that Gemma is unaffected, and that nothing is changing in regards to her because consistency is important. And I’m proud of that.”
Moving on to Carl’s suggestion that he won’t close the door on a friendship with her and hoped to get friendlier as they moved on and dated other people, Lindsay had some suggestions.
“If this guy wants to be friendlier, he needs to make amends for things he did in the past. I watched last season. We all watched it. He continued to villainize me. He continued to talk about me, him and his mom,” she recalled. “If you want to have a friendlier relationship, then stop villainizing me and victimizing yourself.”
Lindsay also pointed out that Carl had “never sat [her] down face to face to be like, ‘Hey, that breakup was terrible and I am so sorry with how I handled it.’”
“How he handled the breakup was so f*cked, and it was like really cruel and disrespectful, and it’s just not something that you do to your fiancé that you’re marrying in two months. It’s not something that you do to your partner, but even more than that, it’s not something you do to your best friend of eight years, and that is where I draw the line,” she explained.
While Lindsay said she’s over Carl, she admitted that she’s not yet over their breakup.
“I don’t know if I will ever get over how he broke up with me. That man publicly humiliated me on purpose, on national television,” she stated. “He basically like dumped me at the altar, like two months before our wedding, after I spent so much money and time planning this thing. So why do I have to be over how he broke up with me? Why do I have to be over him causing me trauma?”
“I thought our friendship of almost a decade would have taken precedent over the show and it didn’t,” she added.
Summer House season 10 is expected to begin airing later this year or early next year on Bravo.
