Marc-Andre Fleury sets record for most overtime wins in NHL history
In what could be the final home game of his NHL career, Marc-Andre Fleury earned the win for the Minnesota Wild in an 8-7 victory over the San Jose Sharks, setting the record for the most overtime wins for a goalie in league history.
The 40-year-old Fleury stopped 24 of 31 shots in the win, and while it may not have been his best effort, he improved his 2024-25 regular-season record to 13-9-1, now owning a 2.78 goals against average (GAA) and .897 save percentage (SV%).
It’s been a historic career for Fleury, who now owns a 573-339-97 record with 76 shutouts in 1,049 career appearances with the Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins. Fleury’s best season may have came in 2020-21 with the Golden Knights, finishing with a 26-10-0 record and .928 SV% with a 1.98 GAA, winning both the Vezina Trophy and William M. Jennings Trophy for the first and only time of his career.
Fleury won the Stanley Cup three times with the Penguins, the same team that drafted him No. 1 overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Fleury’s 573 career wins are the second most in NHL history, only behind Martin Brodeur. His 1,049 career appearances are the second most, also behind Brodeur. His 76 shutouts are tied for 10th with Tony Esposito and Ed Belfour on the all-time list.
This season, the Wild are 43-29-7 with 93 points, fourth in the Central Division and currently holding on to the No. 1 Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, just ahead of the St. Louis Blues. While the two teams both have 93 points, Minnesota wins the tiebreaker with two more regulation wins.
If the playoffs were to start today, the Wild would face Fleury’s former team, the Golden Knights.
