Matt LaFleur Makes Expectations Clear About Packers’ Issue With Receivers

Last season, the Green Bay Packers made another playoff appearance under Matt LaFleur's coaching and with Jordan Love as their quarterback, but unfortunately, failed to advance past a Wild Card game.

The new season will present opportunities for the team to address previous issues and potentially achieve a better finish than their 11-6 record in 2024.

One issue was that Green Bay was winless against the NFC's top three teams: the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions. They also had a 1-5 record against NFC North divisional opponents.

It could be even more competitive in the coming season, especially within that division, as many believe the Chicago Bears could improve.

Another significant problem for Green Bay was with the team's receivers dropping passes. According to a stat mentioned on ESPN, the Packers had three receivers in the top five for drop rates.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur appeared on ESPN during the team's training camp. When asked about remedying the issue with the receivers, he seemed unfazed and believed his players would fix it.

"I think you can't worry about it. I think you just go out there and compete every day. Obviously, that's part of their jobs, so the expectation is when it's thrown their way, they're gonna make a play," he told ESPN's Shae Cornette.

"For me personally, I've got a lot of confidence in those guys and I see the work they put in," he said, adding, "It's three days in [for training camp], so I don't want to make it too big a thing, but they've been off to a pretty good start so far."

Last season, Packers receivers Dontayvion Wicks and Jayden Reed each dropped nine potential receptions and were among the top 10 NFL receivers for drops. Romeo Doubs also had seven drops.

During the offseason, the team addressed several specific needs, including the offensive line. The front office also added a few new members to the receiving corps.

They include Texas Longhorns standout Matthew Golden, whom the team took with their first-round pick. Based on early impressions, Golden has already  impressed at training camp, and there are expectations that he'll make an immediate impact with the team this season.
