Mike Tyson Names The Fighter Terence Crawford Should Be Facing Instead Of Chasing Canelo

Mike Tyson has advised Terence Crawford to halt his pursuit of Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

The 36-year-old from Omaha has made it clear that a fight against Canelo – which would require jumping up two weight classes from his last outing – is the only thing that will add to his already history-making legacy.

Canelo is expected to receive and offer soon and may just take it if the money is right, but former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson doesn’t like the fight for Crawford.

Speaking on the It Is What It Is podcast, ‘Iron’ Mike said the weight difference was too big.

“You know, I don’t like that fight. I don’t like that fight. It’s just too much weight. He had a close fight with the last guy he fought [Madrimov] cause this guy was big and he was awkward.”

Instead, Tyson would like to see Crawford stick around at super-welterweight to fight Jermell Charlo, move up to middleweight for his brother Jermall, or – the match-up many want to see – accept the challenge from Jaron Ennis.

“I want to see him fight one of the Charlo brothers. Or the young brother from Philadelphia, I forgot his name. Ennis. And I want to see Boots Ennis fight one of the Charlo brothers then come back down [in weight.] That’s what they used to do, Sugar Ray Leonard, those guys, they used to go up in weight, fight a guy then give the belt back and come back just to show they could win. There’s no ego in boxing now. They just talking s**t, but there’s no real ego. Ego’s going after this motherf***er.”

Jermell Charlo lost to Canelo in September of 2023 and has been out of the ring since. Jermall beat Jose Benavidez Jr two months later to end two years of inactivity but hasn’t fought again this year and had issues outside of the ropes.

The most likely then is ‘Boots’ Ennis, active and now a welterweight world champion. He has made it clear he would move up to face Crawford.
