NFL Insider Drops Surprising Packers-Jaire Alexander News

The Jaire Alexander saga has been the defining storyline of the Green Bay Packers’ offseason. Alexander is one of the league’s top cornerbacks but has missed 34 of the Packers’ last 68 games. He carries a $24.6 million cap charge in 2025 and $27.0 million in 2026.

NFL Insider Drops Surprising Packers-Jaire Alexander News

The Packers have internally expressed frustration with Alexander’s inability to stay on the field. Moreover, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed that the Packers had engaged in trade talks involving the star cornerback. However, General Manager Brian Gutekunst suggested Alexander “certainly could be” part of the team in 2025.

Green Bay fans and football analysts are split on whether the Packers should keep him or move on. While it is still unclear what will happen, an NFL insider recently shared new news regarding his potential future.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that the Packers and Jaire Alexander could work toward reconciling, potentially keeping him with the team in 2025.

"According to a source, the Packers and Jaire Alexander continue to talk about a possible resolution, which could include a reconciliation to where Alexander plays for the Packers in 2025 after all," Demovsky said.

Demovsky added that all options remain on the table, including a possible trade or release, which is the logical move considering Green Bay’s cap outlook for 2026.

Over The Cap projects Green Bay to have just $6.5 million in effective cap space for 2026, the ninth-lowest figure in the NFL. The Packers could have as many as seven starters hitting unrestricted free agency next offseason. Why would they tie up nearly 10% of their salary cap in a player who has missed 34 of their last 68 games, especially when they’ll have so many tough decisions to make?

This saga with Jaire Alexander feels similar to what happened with David Bakhtiari. Both are among the best at their positions, but just as the Packers had no guarantee Bakhtiari would stay on the field consistently, they face the same uncertainty with Alexander.

Brian Gutekunst has been deflective whenever asked about Jaire Alexander’s future, and the recent reports suggesting Alexander could stay with the team might simply be Gutekunst trying to strengthen his leverage in a potential trade scenario.
