Niecy Nash-Betts Shares Wild Details About Her Multiple Weddings, Including a Fight and a Fashion Faux Pas

Former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Niecy Nash-Betts revealed some juicy details about her three weddings while co-hosting “Today” on June 24.

Nash-Betts was married to Don Nash from 1994 to 2007 and Jay Tucker from 2011 until 2020. In August of 2020 the Emmy-winner married her current wife, Jessica Betts. “I’ve been to the big show three times,” Nash-Betts told host Jenna Bush Hager about her three weddings.

Nash-Betts Almost Got Into a Fight at Her First Wedding

According to the “Reno 911!” actor, there was some drama at her wedding to Don Nash. “I had a traditional wedding the first time where I almost got in a fight right before we walked down the aisle,” she revealed. And she had a pretty good reason: “Because the groom’s ex-girlfriend came to my party.”

It seems the ex wasn’t an invited guest but rather a wedding crasher, and Nash-Betts was ready to throw down. “I was like, crawl underneath this crinoline and take my shoes off, you know what I mean?” the actor said. “I was like, ‘You will not come to my wedding and start a mess.’”

Nash-Betts’ second wedding may have been free of unwanted guests, but it came with its own set of issues. She and Jay Tucker were married in a televised special for TLC called “Niecy Nash’s Wedding Bash.” The actor told Bush Hager that getting married on TV was “very stressful.”

Colman Domingo Officiated Nash-Betts’ Third Wedding

Nash-Betts tied the knot with Jessica Betts in a small but magical ceremony. “I married the greatest love of my life in my backyard with 24 people,” the actor shared. But there was one little hiccup. Fashion-forward actor Colman Domingo was the officiant of the wedding and Nash-Betts was not loving his outfit.

“I have a grudge against him because I don’t know what he’s wearing,” Nash-Betts said, referring to a photo of Domingo in a busy bright yellow and black outfit. “He just looked like a beautiful bumblebee, but I said, ‘You’re my officiant…you don’t got black slacks laying around?”

Drama and jokes aside, Nash-Betts revealed that she’s finally found true love with her wife, telling Bush Hager, “…I don’t think it’s about the gender that makes it special. It’s just, I met my soulmate, you know what I mean?”

Still, Nash-Betts was caught off guard herself as she never thought she’d be more than an ally for the LGBTQ+ community. “…but now I’m a card-carrying member,” she said. The actor joked that she expected more fanfare, especially from her gay friends. “I thought there was gonna be a parade outside of my house. I got nothing, guys. Nothing.”
