What started as a whirlwind love story in the pods is now hitting a harsh dose of reality — and for Kwame Appiah, the pressure to start a family might be the very thing tearing his marriage apart.
In a startlingly candid moment during a recent podcast appearance, the Love Is Blind star admitted that while he loves Chelsea Griffin deeply, he’s struggling with what comes next… and who he has to become to get there.
“She’s Already Picking Baby Names — And I’m Still Trying to Breathe”
“We don’t talk about the pressure men feel,” Kwame said. “It’s just assumed we’ll be ready when she is. But I’m not there. Not yet.”
According to Kwame, Chelsea has made it clear she’s ready for the next chapter — motherhood. But for him, that next chapter feels like a page he’s not ready to turn. “I feel like I just started figuring out who I am outside of the show, outside of the cameras. And now I’m supposed to give that up? Trade that in for diapers and daycare?”
He paused before adding, “I’m not trying to be selfish. I’m just trying to be honest.”
A Marriage Out of Sync?
While the couple has painted a picture of stability on social media, insiders say tension has been building for months. Friends close to the pair reveal Chelsea has been vocal about wanting to start a family soon — and has grown increasingly frustrated by Kwame’s hesitance.
“She’s always known she wanted to be a mom,” one source shared. “And she assumed that once they got married, it would just happen naturally. But Kwame’s pulling back — and it’s breaking her heart.”
“I’m Not a Bad Husband — I Just Need to Breathe”
Kwame insists his reluctance doesn’t mean he doesn’t love Chelsea. In fact, he says it’s because he loves her that he’s trying to be honest. “I don’t want to bring a kid into this world unless I’m 100% ready. And right now, I’m not. That doesn’t make me a villain. It makes me real.”
But Chelsea, according to sources, doesn’t see it that way. With her friends settling down and the clock ticking louder every day, she reportedly feels blindsided — and betrayed. “She thought they were on the same page,” the insider said. “Now she’s starting to wonder if he ever really wanted the same life she did.”
The Beginning of the End?
Whether this is a temporary disconnect or the unraveling of a love story remains to be seen. But what’s clear is that the fairytale has faded — and in its place is a man torn between love and identity, freedom and responsibility.
“I married her because I saw forever,” Kwame said. “But I also thought I’d have time to live before I became someone’s dad. I’m not saying never. I’m saying… not yet.”
