With this year’s Team USA roster being one of the most lethal squads ever assembled, it’s natural for fans to draw comparisons with the historic 1992 Dream Team. Just like the team that conquered Barcelona, the American hoopers that are currently in Paris are highly likely to be future Hall of Famers. But do these superstars believe that they have any resemblance to the Dream Team? Well, for long, Anthony Edwards has been deemed as the second coming of Michael Jordan because of his similar playing style and competitive mindset. However, Ant-Man blatantly denied any resemblance to MJ, or any other Dream team member for that matter, leaving the NBA World in a frenzy.
As Team USA prepares for their first Olympics encounter against Serbia, the players on the team were asked an interesting question “Who do you think your game resembles the most from the Dream Team?” Obviously, when Edwards appeared on screen, everyone believed he would say ‘Michael Jordan’ considering the narrative has already been out there for quite some time. But surprisingly, the Wolves star shocked everyone with his one-word response, “No!”
Likely not wanting to stir the pot any further, Ant-Man refused to name any athlete from the legendary team. While the world desperately wanted to hear Edwards comparing himself to Jordan, he has already addressed those comparisons in an interview with ESPN earlier this year, “How would I look denying it? But I don’t wanna be compared with somebody of such calibre, I mean, I haven’t did anything on his level yet.” Only 22YO right now and yet to make a finals appearance, Edwards feels it might not be right to put him in the same ranks as the Bulls legend just yet. However, he did claim that the people might not be completely off the mark, “I love that they got faith in me for sure, I mean they not wrong.”
NBA World reacts to Ant-Man’s shocking response
As expected, Edwards’ denial caught the NBA World’s attention right away as they hilariously commended him for not falling for media’s antics. “Ant is not taking the bait lmao.” One fan wrote. Meanwhile, more fans shared a similar sentiment as they believed the media personnel specially curated this segment just to hear Edwards acknowledge the Jordan comparison. Sure enough, comments like “they wanted him to say Mike so bad😂” and “Damn this whole interview was to ask Ant and he just says NO 😂” started flooding in, calling out the interviewer and appreciating Ant’s presence of mind.
While Edwards did not name any names, his teammates did. Although everyone wanted Ant-Man to say MJ, it was Kevin Durant who actually claimed his game was similar to the six-time champion. And one fan was not too pleased with that bold claim, “KD and Jordan are nothing alike in anyway shape or form 😂” When people compare Edwards to Jordan, it’s because of their similar playing style and an eerily similar build. However, KD being nearly seven feet tall, does not ring the same bell apart from his scoring ability.
Apart from Ant and KD, the same question was also asked to Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, and Devin Booker. Staying loyal to their franchise, Steph drew comparison to Warriors’ legend Chris Mullin while JT claimed his game was similar to Celtics icon Larry Bird. But it was Devin Booker’s humble response that caught one fan’s attention, “D Book w the most PR answer and Ant man just said “no” 😂” Somewhat similar to Edwards, Booker also did not take any name but had a more professional approach in his response, “I wouldn’t compare myself to any of those guys, but I have a lot of respect for them.” While fans expected some drama to come out of this question, the Team USA players, especially Edwards, did not take the bait.
