Packers Lose Drafted Offensive Lineman to Season-Ending Injury

The Green Bay Packers will have one less guard in the mix for a roster spot after shutting down one of their recent draft picks for the forthcoming 2025 season.

The Packers officially placed second-year guard and 2024 sixth-round selection Travis Glover on the injured reserve list and signed wide receiver Isaiah Neyor on Wednesday in a pair of corresponding roster moves that will keep them at the 90-man roster limit.

Travis Glover Injury Roster Moves Packers News

Glover had been vying for a depth role in the Packers’ guard rotation at 2025 training camp, but he had not practiced since July 31 due to a shoulder injury. According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “a source said he suffered a tear to his latissimus dorsi muscle (lat) that likely will require surgery,” hence his IR designation.

“He was ascending,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Thursday about Glover. “He was an ascending player. So, it’s very disappointing that we won’t have him.”

Glover will now spend the rest of the season on injured reserve. Players who land on IR before the start of the regular season are ineligible to return unless they receive a return designation from their team, which is not the case for Glover — according to Silverstein.

Packers Nursing Multiple Injuries at O-Line Positions

While Glover is now shut down for the year, the Packers still have several more injuries to monitor for their offensive line as they prepare for the start of the 2025 preseason.

During August 7’s practice, the Packers did not have left tackle Rasheed Walker (groin), center Elgton Jenkins (back) or seventh-round rookie tackle John Williams (back) on the practice field due to injuries. Jenkins is a new addition to the team’s injury list.

Walker has missed the past several practices with his groin injury, which could have an impact on his ability to compete with 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan and second-round rookie Anthony Belton for the Packers’ starting left tackle job in Week 1.

Meanwhile, Walker has still not practiced yet for the Packers in camp. The team placed him on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list when he reported for camp in July. While he is eligible to return as soon as he passes his physical, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said he could be “out for a while” at the onset of camp.

Travis Glover’s Injury Opens Door for Other Guards

The Packers are losing some promising depth from their guard room with Glover’s IR designation, but his shutdown consequently opens the door for other guards as well.

The Packers likely have eight offensive linemen who are locks to make their initial 53-man roster: Zach Tom, Sean Rhyan, Jenkins, Aaron Banks, Walker, Belton, Morgan and Jacob Monk — a 2024 fifth-round pick who projects as the Packers’ backup center. On their first unofficial depth chart, they also listed Glover and second-year guard Donovan Jennings as the backup guards in the rotation — the operative word being “unofficial.”

With Glover out of the picture, though, the Packers have at least one backup guard role up for grabs, even if Jennings holds onto his “unofficial” role. Undrafted rookies Tyler Cooper and J.J. Lippe are in the running, but they will have competition from others with actual NFL experience, such as Lecitus Smith and Trey Hill — both former sixth-round draft picks.

The Packers must trim their roster down to the 53-man roster limit before the league deadline at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 26.
